I announced on facebook a week or so ago that 2012 was hopefully going to bring a big announcement for us. By us, I mean our family.
We are pleased (and thrilled, and excited, and cautious, and anxious!) to announce, that we are expecting in early August 2012!
(The obligatory stick photo)
A few things to know:
-I am just about 9 weeks along (Due August 7th)
-Baby is about an inch long and as of 7 weeks 4 days it’s heart was beating at a strong 153 beats per minute (bpm)
- We had a Christmas eve scare. We were in church and I started bleeding (tmi, sorry) so I called the ER and they said to come in just to be safe. I was there from about 9-1130pm with both my dad and father. I was checked, had blood work, a pelvic exam, and even a sonogram in which we found out everything was o.k, the baby was growing normally and the heartbeat was strong. I was good to go, but am on very light rest for the next several weeks and am very limited on what I can do.
They diagnosed this as a Threatened Miscarriage, meaning, it could’ve been based on the fact that I was bleeding, but everything else was fine and I haven’t had an issue since. There are many factors that could’ve caused the bleeding (doing too much, a small hemorrhage, an irritated cervix, or just stretching causing the bleeding). Lots of women can have bleeding and be perfectly fine, but some go on to eventually have miscarriages.
Why am I telling you all this?
Well, it’s a matter of asking for prayers or thoughts. We didn’t want to wait until over 20 weeks to announce, but we wanted to make everyone aware of what’s been going on at the same time. We are excited, but very cautious at the same time, since we had a miscarriage in May too. This specific miscarriage was called a Blighted Ovum, basically meaning that a sac formed to hold the baby and was growing as if one was there, but there was not. All my symptoms persisted, levels continued going up, etc, but when I went to the ER for pelvic pain, there was nothing there. I had a D&C (a procedure to remove the remnants) a few weeks later.
So, while we are super excited, we are being careful and cautious, but optimistic. Any thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated.
We will keep you all updated, but we are praying for a healthy growing baby the whole way through. Happy 2012!
